Hi all, any advice would be appreciated. me and my boyfriend are planning a trip, prob for september 2009 to spend a couple of weeks travelling round tibet and visiting the everest base camp. Whenever i have travelled before I have always just winged it,booking things as I go, but think an organsied tour would be better in this case as my boyfriend has not travelled much and is more comfortable with planning things! we are quite easy with what we do but visiting everest is a must (my boyfriends grandad was on the first ascent so its a bit of a pilgrimage for us)!

I have seen some tours with STA travel, particulalarly one called himalaya adventure (i think) its 15 days, beijing to tibet. At the moment there is 50% off so its quite a good deal. Was wondering if anyone has used STA for this kind of thing before, particlurly in tibet and what they are like, or can recommend any other tour provider???

Also, the issues with permits and entry to tibet i have seen discussed on this forum, are these also issues if you are on an organised tour such as with STA, and would any subsequent unrest in the region nearer to the trip departure date mean it is better to not book anything til as late as possible?

Thanks in advance everyone! Katie

Visit to Tibet, it is necessary to obtain in Tibet Tourism Bureau and Police Department Bureau's permission. If you go to the base camp of Mount Qomolangma in Tibet, but also do a number of other documents. sctabi at hotmail dot com

I can only help with a tiny part of your question - if you book through an organised tour, the Tibet permit will be settled for you. No problems at all.

You reach Everest Base Camp via Nepal not Tibet. There are loads of tour companys in Kathmandu that can plan your trip.
