Dear Members,

I'll be in SP and RIJ in late July early August ( 2 days and 7 days repectively) and I was wondering what part of the both cities it'll be best to stay.

In Sao Paulo - i know it is more business than touristy - i hope to stay some where central so I could take the coach to Rio. But In Rio, I'll love somewhere near the beach so that I can go to notable places there

Can anyone kindly recommend the best area of the city to stay please?

There are different opinions about the best neighborhood to stay in Rio. Ipanema is often mentioned as the best but it's more expensive than Copacabana.
I would suggest you rent an apartment in lew of a hotel. They are usually less expensive and in many cases much larger than a standard hotel room.

Because SP has 14 train lines and one of those lines goes to Tiete station (bus station) your choices are wide. Ibis is like the Motel 6 of the states. Theres 5 ibis in SP. One Ibis, in Santo Andre is a 10 min walk from station (it feels shorter). It has a big shopping center across the street and a few churrascaris near by ( all u can eat meat!!). But its not in centro, its a suburb. But don't let that fool you. Its a nice part of town and there a park next to the hotel. ANd price wise, its cheaper than or most hotels anywhere in SP. They have a big website (Ibis). By train to centre is about 20+ mins (luz or bras station) and many connectors from those 2 stations. As the other poster said, staying at an apartment is a good idea. But again, there an Ibis in Rio which will be the cheapest in Rio but the exact location I dont know. But you could find any hotel with travelocity for this too. But try to spend more days in Rio than SP, trust me!
