My girlfriend is going to Barcelona and she is looking for a good hostel. She and her friends want something close to the center. -snip-

Thanks in advance....

I have some studios in the Gothic Quarter, just 5 min to La Rambla.
The price is 50 euro/night for 2 pax and 80 euro/night for 4 pax.
Each studio has private bathroom and small kitchenette.
Here´s my e-mail if you are interested:

I can't vouch for either of those hostels, but I can recommend to stay away from the Ideal Youth Hostel. It was very dirty, you had to pay for sheets and the staff was very rude (ie: we had to wait an hour to get our room because the one person at the counter was talking long distance to her family in wherever. When we asked nicely for help, she ignored us).

Anyways, other than that, tell her to stick around Las Ramblas. It's a younger part of town. There are lots bars and there are great open-air markets (for food and souveniers). We were right near the Liceu metro stop, so you can get to anything, and there was some beautiful architecture in the area (including the opera house which is world famous).

She's going to love it and tell her not to miss the Park Guell!

I stayed in Gothic Point! It was really nice and friendly and safe......until a horrible smelly stag party from hell moved into our dorm, and they made the rest of the stay really horrible. We didn't have the guts to complain about them becasue we were actually quite frighened of what they'd do if they found out someone in the dorm complained about them, we couldn't afford to go anywhere else becasue we'd prepaid. When they left our dorm had a little party. Don't get me wrong I'm up for a good time, but these guys came in shouting at 7am, absolutley hammered and causing complete havoc. I would recommend the hostel, but I wouldn't recommend a dorm, as stag parties are EVERYWHERE in Barcleona and to be honest I was quite scared when I was there. There are smaller single sex dorms that are nice and some private rooms I think.
Is your girlfriend going with friends? If so they could possibly get a smaller dorm together or even a private?
I hope her trip goes well, if you want any other advice, feel free to message me!

I can tell you about Gothic is well located, 5 steps far from a subway station. Also, you can go walking to “Las Ramblas”, like 5 minutes. Gothic is located near or in the Gothic Barri, which is one of the nicest places in Barcelona (is very “bohemio”).. but be careful with your wallet and personal things.

The place has internet, separate bathrooms (for girls and boys).. The beds are ok,, you have a locker just behind for bed (for personal things) and bigger lockers outside the rooms. You have “privacy” in the room, although you share it with more people. Your bed is inside of a little room.. where you close a curtain and nobody sees you..
The breakfast was ok...juice, bread, fruit... coffe..
Something different from other hostels was this: the staff organizes activities for young people, they take you to all the tourist places but cheaper than other places. In the night they take you to bars, nightclubs.. They have a person in charge of doing all this...
I didn't have any problem when I went there.. but i will follow the advice and ask for a small room.. just in case..

see ya
