Where should I stay!!!
I think it might be a good idea to stay in two different areas, to get to see more of rio... which areass to be people recommend staying in and which fun, cheap and social hostels do people recommend

thanks

Rio backpackers is undoubtedly the best place to stay. it is a short walk (5 min) from Copacabana beach and a short bus to ipanema beach (15 min walk). they organize great trips for you and they have a free breakfast. The staff is very friendly and they made my stay extra accommodating. seriously I was originally in some other hostel that looked great on the website but it was miles from any of the action. At riobackpackers I met a ton of cool people including the staff that knew how to party. Definitely the best hostel to stay at as far as I am concerned. its also cheap and clean.

have a look at my blog if you like. you can see my reaction and attitude change once i got there.

I've got to recommend Mellow Yellow! Within 5 mins walk of Copacobana beach and a fantastic place to stay. They have an unparallelled breakfast included in the nightly rate! :)

I'm not a fan of party hostels, but this one did it really well. They organised something almost every night for people staying there and I was sorry to leave. Great spot.

I would definitely recommend Stone of a Beach hostel. Its about 2 minutes walk from Mellow Yellow, and whilst I was there, there seemed to be a rivalry between the two. However, the impression I got was that although Stone of a Beach seemed to be a bit more relaxed and a little smaller, there was still something going on every night, such as capoeira shows, barbeques, along with the boat trips and favela parties! The trips are also fantastically well organised, and Pedro, who runs the hostel, cannot be criticised; he spent all day on the phone with me when I had to get my passport stamped at the airport by the police! Overall, Stone of a Beach is fantastic, I think you'll definitely agree when you spend the night in the rooftop hot tub with a bucket of Caipirinha! RM

I agree 100% with Mellow Yellow travelled 3 months in South America and it was my favourite hostel! very welcoming and friendly and you have stuff to do ALL the time! and its party party party too :)

I think the rivalry between Stone of a Beach and Mellow Yellow is cos the manager or one of the former owners of mellow yellow opened stone of beach something like that.... heard its good too... but mellow yellow all the way... recommended it to people on my trip too and they all loved it...
