Hi all,

Would like a few questions answered.

I am going to be travelling around thailand for three weeks with a friend (from 1st oct - 30th oct this year)

what is the best way of getting from chiang mai to phuket ?

What is the best way of getting from Phuket to krabi at this time of year ?

What is the best way of travelling around the islands of krabi ?

Then from Krabi to Bangkok ?

Also have you got any good recomedations for hotels on all locations ? (budget of £18 - £20 a night)

Thanks for responding in advance

Hi Cliff

Good Morning

I live in Chiang Mai,Thailand so hopefully can give you some sound advice!.

Travelling around Thailand during October: - it's monsoon/rainy season, please read the link as to what that can mean particularly in the southern areas of Thailand.

Best way of travelling Chiang Mai - Phuket:, there is a single flight per day operated by Thai Airways, it takes just 2 hours & is direct!!, and for October you can get there for just over 4,000thb all in, the other options are cheaper, train & bus, but they take 1-2 days to get there.

Best way of getting from Phuket to Krabi: lots of choices most expensive - fly, medium price - boat, cheap price - bus.
(suggestion here, if I were you, I would base myself on Phuket & "island hop over to Krabi, as most of the most beautiful spots are ALL accessible from Phuket - Phang Nga Bay, Phi Phi Islands, Similan Islands, Koh Lanta & Krabi)

Best way of travelling around the islands off Krabi: no choice here - boat, many water taxis & tour boats offer services, just shop around for the best deal, not the first one!!.

Krabi / Phuket back to Bangkok: - three choices
1/ fly from either Krabi or Phuket directly back to Bangkok, both very competetive routes, you should be able to do it for no more than 1,500thb/person.
2/ bus to Surat Thani then train back to Bangkok, takes around 12 hours & approx cost 400thb, there are various "classes" on the train cheaper & more expensive, DON'T go too cheap, it's not a pleasant experience sitting on a hard seat for 12 hours !!.
3/ bus to Bangkok from either Krabi or Phuket takes around 12 hours & costs approx 500thb/person, again go for VIP which is air-conditioned & comfortable.

Accommodation Recommendations: there is a detailed hotel search towards the bottom of this page, the very cheapest "room with fan" you are likely to find is around 250-350thb/night.(suggestion: as you are travelling "low season" you should book just the essential accommodations, then shop around
when you arrive at the islands, and don't let the taxi drivers "take you somewhere nice", it will be overpriced & they will be earning commission on it!! ).

That covers all of your initial questions, but I am always happy to try & help advise you with any further enquiries.

Have a great Holiday, both Chiang Mai & the Andaman Sea area are stunningly beautiful.

Kind Regards
