Hi everyone,

I've been reading through this forum a lot recently and the advice available is truly invaluable, a really brilliant place!

I do however need a bit more specific advice relating to my forthcoming trip to India (which is part of larger 9 month jobby) I leave on September the 20th and fly into deli and to be honest, I don't really have an idea of the route I am going to take. We are in India until Jan 7th and fly out from Bombay, so we have a fair bit of time!

This part of my trip was frankly my travelling partner’s idea, and in all honest I’m slightly dubious of her organisational skills! So I was just wondering if any of you kind people would like to offer a potential route, ideally missing as much of the tail end of the wet season as possible.

I'm thinking that we'd like to spend a fair amount of time in Goa but I obviously wouldn't to miss anything really spectacular

Thanks in advance

I can help you along the way a bit. Firstly a couple of questions.
Whats your budget and do you have a driving licence? Driving in India is fun and really not as bad as a lot of people fear it to be. Ive driven 1000s of miles around it and through it and come away unscathed.
Over to you.

Thanks for the reply :)

No driving licence unfortunately.... my travel partner does but i'm not sure how keen she'd be driving over there, as you say, it does have a bit of a rep.

As far as budget goes, been aiming for the average what people are saying so around £15-£20 a day. I've got more money than that anyway but this is what I will aim for as the last leg will be in Oz.

We will predominanetly want to travel by train i'd imagine.

Thanks again,

If you are planning to visit goa and need help with accomodation - give me a shout. i can arrange apartments, villas for a cheaper rate as i am in goa for property business at the moment.

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

hi adam im also planning a trip for roughly 9months starting next may/june time, i am considering india as my first stop and i am in the same boat as you, not really knowing what to expect etc. i have been trying to put together some sort of itinerary for my time in india, all i can suggest is you research india and decide what you would like to see, for example to taj mahal, himalayas, river ganges, pilgrams etc etc, and from there try to plan out a route. i was thinking of only staying a month in india then moving on to SEA Oz and NZ. hopefully people can give more advice because it would help me out also. what is your budget for the whole of your trip?

Yeah I think buying a book sharpish is probably the way forward, I was relying on my friend to plan this part but I think i'll have to bite the bullet! I was just looking for something to work with....

My budget will be around £7k after flights, that's with 3 months in india, 4 on SEA, 3 in Oz... But i'll also be getting the 1 years working Visa in Oz so I hope to get a decent-ish job out there after i've had a look around.

I'd like to be able to take more but I guess everyone does!
