Had a couple of nights in Singapore recently. IT's a great city if you know waht to do. Don't worry about being on your own, people are really friendly. Go on a river-boat tour, try and get a bus day-trip to Malaysia, it's really different.
Go to Newtown Foodmarket (on the metro) definitely check out all the amazing buildings and what else, Sentosa Island is worth a visit but for a quieter more junlgy time go to Pulau Ubin. Lots to do I reckon, also we stayed in Robertson Quay Hotel, very cheap, and I would rate it 8/10 for cleanliness, 6/10 for comfort but you don't get much more than a bed and a shower. There is a pool there though which is great to cool down in!
Any more questions feel free to message me!

Depends on what you like to do really... if you are into the Arts, u cna always check out if any performances are on at the Esplanade, u can visit the museums...

Shopping is a pretty good solitary activity... besides, depends when you come, maybe the christmas lights are up in Orchard Road already (the shopping street here)...;)

There really is nothing much that you shouldn't do in Singapore, except maybe stay away from the red light districts, hahhah...such as Geylang and Orchard Towers.

And if the weather is good, it'll be nice to sit by the beach in Sentosa , altho I am sure u'll get lots of very nice beach days in OZ, so maybe no point...

There are the usual touristy things to do, like visit the Night Safari, Chinatown, Little India etc etc, you can browse through a guide book for that, so prob no point telling you about it...

Singapore has many nice clean hotels of moderate budget, what price range are u looking at?

just seen your posting, as I'm looking for tips and advice on Hong Kong and Singapore / Kuala Lumpar. I'll be leaving the UK round 9-10th feb and stopping in Hong Kong for Chinese New Year (hopefully) before heading onto either Singapore / KL, which will be around that time 13-15th feb for 3-4 nts before heading to Oz for 17th. If plans go ahead will let you know and maybe we can meet up? Soz, I've got no tips - looking for them myself!!

I sent someone a whole list of what to do and where to stay in Singapore sometime back, but I lost that mail. Anyways, I think Jessianne and Meowpok have indicated some good things to do. As for where to stay, I've got a feeling that you will get more leverage staying at the backpacking hostels than hotels. Reason I say this is that the other travellers there would have researched and they might also share the same interest in going to similar places. You could surely hop on the same cab/bus/subway, share time exploring to get to these places.

Look in the TP directory for hostels. I think there is a place called "Backpacker's Inn". It looked quite decent when I was around that area.

As for things to do, there's so much food to try here! Newton is okay, but, yes, you should venture out to the other areas. Shopping is alright, you do get some good deals for electronics.

Let me know if you need more info...
