Hi guys (Peter & Sam) I thought you could perhaps help me!

Ive to develop a website for a uni assignment! It has to be done in HTML rather than using Dreamweaver or Frontpage etc. Im completely new to web design so i thought maybe you guys would have some good links to web development pages/code to go about creating a website!

Even got any ideas wot to design a website about would be a help

Funnily enough, there's TONS of stuff about the web on the web ;)

A good beginner's site is Webmonkey.

Personally, I'd encourage you to straight away try and make your site XHTML compliant and use CSS heavily. Acronyms sound scary, but honestly this is much easier than traditional HTML with all the font tags and crazy design hacks (although CSS has enough hacks of its own). A great book is Designing with Web Standards by Jeffrey Zeldman. Have a look at A List Apart for a bunch of tips as well.

The great thing about handcoding HTML is that you can do it on ANY free text editor - Notepad will do the trick! And knowing the HTML gives you a lot more control over your site and will invariably mean smaller pages (and therefore quicker to load).

hey smythy-my bro has designed his own website and has done websites for other people, if you need any info i can pass it on to him if ya want!
