I've never been myself, and the only visual of Fiji I have is those lovely huts that jet out into the ocean.. mmm... I heard they're about $5,000 a night, though.

lil j, Fiji is a bit of a backwater and from a tourists point of view, is really only worth a visit if you've got kids or you're on your honeymoon. Okay, there's more to it than that, but there'd be a million other places worth going to first.

A lot of the resorts are on an area called the "coral coast" so if you did a google on it you'd find out some information.

I went to Fiji years ago with an ex-girlfriend. We were in this restaruant by the beach and all of a sudden we were told to stand on the tables - there were about half a dozen snakes on the floor that had slithered in. They were sea snakes that can also live on the land, and are harmless (apparently).

I don't know much about Fiji but have been told by people who have beent there that it is better to go to the little Islands and to the resorts as the main part of Fiji is yuck with litter, dogs and people trying to sell you things.

I will be going for the first time next year to one of the little islands. I have yet to look into it, Only reason I am going is I won a return trip for 2 and will go in winter time in New Zealand over to sunny Fiji.

Hi, I have been to Fiji a few times and enjoyed it very much. Things you need to think about, first is Fiji time, you will be in a laid-back and relaxed community where there is no need to rush, and nobody does. Each time we go there we book for longer and still leave feeling it was not long enough.
There is a great backpackers resort near Natadola Beach, one of the best beaches on the island, have a look at the photos of Fiji in the gallery, get back to me with any specific questions and I will do my best to help.

In fact Fiji is an exciting and friendly destination with all kinds of things to do/place to go.
It's true that the so-called Coral Coast is anything but-a place to be avoided as it attracts hordes of rude drunken beer bellied Ockers and their even fatter wives.
However places like Taveuni, Kadavu and Ovalau are gems of quiet, peace and friendliness.
Kayaking the azure reefs, trekking the enchanting jungles to gorgeous waterfalls, fishing the turbulent passes, snorkeling the walls of reefs covered in Coral and teeming with fish, lazing on golden beaches, nights taking Kava with charming and open villagers.
Because of Indian and Chinese immigration Fijian food is the best in all the South Pacific utilising locally organically grown veggies & fruit picked from trees right by your Bure, delicious fish and sweets in Indian style that have to be tasted to be believed.
Fijian water is so pure and delicious it's now exported across the globe and commands premium prices.
Transport is cheap, easy and people all speak some English-a well organised visitors bureau offers all kinds of different accommodation options from private islands to dorms in bures.
I should qualify my post by saying I lived in Fiji for a time and consider it a second home-there is no place I'd rather be.

[ Edit: Try to keep it nice please! ]

I visited Fiji just for the weekend as part of my RTW trip . . .the weather was a bit variable when i was there in June but it is a stunning place and well worth a visit. I recommend visiting some of the smaller islands, and the coral is definitely worth seeing.

My hostel was not as good as I had hoped, although it was very friendly and cheap . . . .

So visit if you want to relax, see somewhere different, and go snorkelling . .

You will always find there are lots of different options to anywhere you visit, so do not us ever put you off . .;)the best bit about a RTW trip on your own is you go where you want to go and make your own mind up. After all you can always post a reply once you have been, and tell us what you think!!!
