Star this if you like it!
Lurked around here a bit but just joined.
I'm male, 29 & British. Live Sheffield, UK and I've recently come back from travelling the states in July - spent a month over there and didn't do even 25% of what I wanted to do - time flew by. But I loved it, caught the travel bug as it was my first major trip as a 'traveller'.
Solo travel is cool but I think I may fancy a companion for my next trip, or for some of the way maybe. I was thinking about going back to the states and Amtrak and hire car my way around if I was solo again - I hired cars and flew my way around last time.
I'm flexible when I can go but ideally looking around the middle of 2010. Also would prefer travel to an english speaking country as I don't speak any other languages.
About Me: I'm laid back and go with the flow. Feel I'm street wise enough to be confident in the places I go to and not put myself or others in unnecessary danger. Don't like to be centre of attention but get along with everyone. I think I would prefer a female travel companion just because most of my friends are female and the type of places my male friends like to go away to sound awful for me (an 18-30 type trip would be my idea of hell).
So looking for some1 similar, maybe some1 who has a travel idea but would like company and I would prefer to meet up with them first or at least talk on the web a bit as it wouldn't be fun if we had personality clashes or something, but like I say, I get along with every1
So any ideas or some1 who wants get in touch then please do, I just wanna get of this island a bit more

If you like car travel, then I was supposed to have driven from the UK to Vladivostok (inc Mongolia) last year but ran out of time in getting the money together. Not sure if i still want to do it, but the idea keeps nagging me now and then. Wanted to swim in the worlds deepest lake, perhaps see an Amur tiger (they have been spotted) and get to see the Nth Korean border - and who knows, perhaps lose the car and get the ferry to Japan. At least, that was the idea.

That sounds cool. But pretty extreme for me though I think.
I liked driving in the states because they have big comfy roads and big comfy cars that don't turn corners - but that is ok because they don't have corners

Russia, being the largest country in the world, doesn't have corners either. They just can't afford them.
Cheers though - and best of luck with all future travels.

I'm trying to sell a house to - I could travel without sale by just saving but a house sale would make things easy.

I am also looking for travel companion to go somewhere. At the moment, I am thinking between South America, Africa or Japan. I do speak reasonable good English even though I am from Asia. I am also pretty easy going, adventurous but not the crazy sort. We can talk more if you are interested. Let me know.

I must say, these forums are pretty cool, had such a great response - definitely gonna be hanging around here more.
But after some research and thinking, my plan is to do europe next year, Africa 2011 and Australia 2012. All of which I'm happy to meet up with anyone really along the way. Its gonna be the slow route around the world to catch as many places as possible and my plans will be swappable and changeable. So I hope to see and be in touch with some of you long the way !!!

I definitely agree with traveling with a companion. Traveling alone isn't bad... it can be a very introspective and self-discovering experience. But there are moments that you are so excited and feel sad you can't share it with someone... I've been on that boat friend!
I'm planning to travel next year here in the States. Hopefully to see the Grand Canyon, the Hoover Dam, and visit Yosemite National Park which among all of its beauty and wildlife, has the giant Sequioas that I've been dying to see. All of that can be done by car. Keep in touch if you're interested. I can only do a week, maybe 10 days, so I wouldn't be able to stick around for a whole month. If you're interested in travelling in those areas next year, keep in touch.
