Hi. I am trying to book a flight to Costa from San Fran Calif on Dec 19, which is just under 90 days from now, and all the carriers are saying around 1000.00 and up (except for Mexicana, 740.00 but that is through Mexico City and with a 7 hour lay over). Does this seem a little high? I flew down in 2005 for around 600. Are they gouging now but will drop later? Does anyone have any clues to the pricing patterns or can recomment the cheaper reliable carrier?

Hi,

Sorry, its not so cheap any more and people who live here tend to take Spirit when they can get it, or Mexicana and just accept the long layover. Even when I fly on the "friends and family" with American, its still pretty expensive and that reduced rate... If I hear of anythng else I will re-post, but in high season, in 2009... not a lot of options...

That seems a little steep...I got my flights from England to Costa Rica using a combo of Virgin Atlantic, a short layover in New York, then Continental to San Jose....It came to a total of just over £500, so thats around....$750 to $800 ish...but without a long layover...

Out of curiosity, where in Costa Rica are you going to and how long are you staying? I'm headed there in January.

theres 2 other options. Try to fly out of LAX or land in Panama City. There may be cheaper flights but then you need to get to those airports. A trip to Panama City is worth it!!! They have buses from PTY to David, then you can go to Boquete, a mountain resort, then continue on to San Jose.
