Hi Guys,

As part of our RTW trip, we would like to travel around Vietnam by motorbike. After watching the Top Gear team do it, they made it look awesome.

I would like a more realistic view of how easy it is to hire and ride a bike over there/costs and insurance etc

My partner and I are mad keen bikers and are going to gutted wrapping our own bikes up for 12 months.

So if anyone has had any experience in Vietnam by bike please share it with me, I'm soooo excited

Thank You

The 'easy riders' will charge you $50/day, each. They do the driving, you hang on. I don't think this is what you had in mind. VN does not have the large bikes you would like to ride. All the rentals I saw were 125cc or less. The 'easy riders' had 150cc bikes. Thailand has large bikes for rent, Cambodia has large off road bikes, not VN. At least not in '08.

I paid $5-7/day for the Honda Wave type motorbike. Was not offered insurance. I doubt it would be valid as I did not have a VN driving license. Every farang renting is basically breaking the law. The Wave is just not powerful enough to get out on the main roads and keep up with traffic IMO. I seriously doubt anyone will let you rent their motorbike when you tell them you are going tour VN for a few weeks. Here is one guys take on riding in VN.

I hope others with more riding experience than I have will chime in and suggest a solution.
