I have the same problem.........my dentist doesn't want to take my problem one out but I don't want to be in pain while I am travelling!! :(

I get abscesses on my lower one's. Only last a few days but they hurt like hell. Drove me nuts when i was in egypt a few weeks ago...I couldn't chew of the left side of my mouth and eating the tough bread over there brought tears to my eyes

But apparently they're "not a problem". I think I need a new dentist.............

I'm no dentist but surely if you're getting abcesses thats a good reason to have them taken out? You may be right about a new dentist.

I think I need one too- our health service in the UK is a problem. Despite paying loads of tax its really hard to get an NHS dentist appointment- I can get one in a week with my surgery but many people have to wait a month, and for getting wisdom teeth removed I could wait a year. I don't fancy going private and having to pay £50 for a check up to tell me I need to pay hundreds on getting teeth removed- which i probably dont.

Seeing as I'm going in a month there's not time to get them removed even if I went private. Its only the last few weeks they've started playing up. The one thats coming through has been quite painful. but no infections or anything. However, There's three more to potentially go wrong. Its not knowing thats the problem. The dentist doesn't seem to think they're in the wrong position which is main prob, but don't fancy any abcesses.

Fingers crossed eh?

Hi, Follow up on my last message, I think you ned to tell the dentist what you want, OK so you can say your hear what he is saying however you think he has to get on and do it so that your new teeth as they come through grow into the right place without giving you problems when you are away from his care. Guess it is being firm and stick to your point that it is your teeth and you want to have them for a long time wothout problems in the short term and they are going to come out anyway, so do it.

i'd say ask your dentist for a 'just in case' perscription for anti biotics to take while you are away - if they are really nice and helpful they will give you one and then you'll be fine if you get another infection. I have the same worry myself but i'm going to risk it!

maybe you are just a bit nervous before your trip, and your teeth are aching :)

dont worry!

Hi again, reading in today's newspaper there is a report of serious problems if there is an abcess under wisdom teeth, talk to your dentist or visit a hospital with a dental department or a dental hospital, or ask to see another dentist - and be strong enough to say you don't want to travel with a possible problem getting worse.
