Does anyone have any ideas how to track down a person traveling abroad? Last known location was Syria about 12 days ago.

Bit of a tough 1. Got anymore info you can pass on?

His name is James Fassbender. He is traveling the world alone. He was in Turkey heading to Syria on November 18th. James has stayed in hostels in most cities. Here is a link to his blog rd-wrld1yr.travellerspoint.com.
Any ideas?

Contact him through any line of communication you can obviously - phone, emails, etc..

I have checked his last login on Travellerspoint and it was on the 25th of November, so hopefully that sets your heart at ease somewhat. He made some edits to his latest blog entry that day.

If you're really worried about him though, then get in touch with your embassy in the country he is meant to be travelling in. From looking at your brother's trip, I think he's a US citizen (?) - if so, here is contact information for the embassy in Damascus. Hopefully they can tap into more information locally.

You can then escalate the search more and start ringing or emailing every hostel that he could possibly have stayed at. It depends how concerned you are obviously.

Good luck finding him!

Since he logged in on the site that recently, also be certain to send him a private message through the travellerspoint message center; he might see that earlier than emails and the like.

We have located James. He is now in Lebanon. He says he is safe and happy.
Thank you so much to everyone that has replied. I greatly appreciate your assistance!!!

That's excellent news!!! Did you scold him for not keeping in touch?

Again, glad to hear there was a positive outcome and James is no longer MIA.

Lebanon from Syria in 2 weeks... wow, I mean that is really a cool travel experience. does he have any companions? in times that you cannot locate him, then you should get his companion's contact details. the next time you can't find him, you can always contact the bank to see where and when his credit card was last used or when and where he last withdrew money from his bank account...

Well, I'm very glad to hear there's a happy ending to this search :)
