Poipet is best from BKK and if you are heading for Siem Reap. If you are in Pattaya or Koh Chang, you can use the Hat Lek/Koh Kong crossing. Convenient for going to Sihanoukville or Phnom Penh.

Cambodia to VN: Most people leave from Phnom Penh. Bus takes you to the Bavet/Moc Bai border, then on to HCMC. I wrote about that crossing in my blog. You can also cross into VN via boat. PP to Chau Doc. Then on to HCMC via bus or tour the delta.

Vietnam to Laos: I think there are at least six border crossings ( for foreigners) into Laos .

By far the most popular is Lao Bao, 80km west of Dong Ha along Highway 9. Once you are on the Laotian side, buses leave for Savannakhet, from where there are connections north to Vientiane by road.A more comfortable alternative is to take the morning air-conditioned tourist bus direct from Dong Ha to Savannakhet (8hr).

The other is Na Maew / Nam Xoi. You start from Thanh Hoa in Vietnam , and after the crossing, the nearest town on Laotian side is Sam Neua. I croosed the border a month after it was opened to international travellers in mid 2004. The immigration/customs post was a a mere shack. but now vastly improved.

One more is Nam Phao / Cau Treo: This border is the crossing of choice for most overland travellers. You start from Vinh

The other is:Dansavanh / Lao Bao: This crossing is convenient for Hue in Vietnam and Savannakhet in Laos.

NamCan / Nam Khan:Coming from Vinh there are buses to Phonsavan (Plains of Jars)

Sop Hun / Tay Trang: Bus travel daily in each direction between Dien Bein Phu and Muang Khua in Laos.

As for Laos to northern Thailand: the crossing is at Huayxai (Vietnam) into Chiang Kong ( Thailand ) by a short 15 minutes boat ride. From Chiang Kong, you can get bus to Chiangrai, Chiangmai, and all the way to BKK.

Hope the info helps!
