I head away on my trip around the world next month. I think I'm getting an I-phone as a little going away present. I have been looking around the sites trying to get some feedback on applications for travellers. The travel apps all seem to be getting average reviews at best. Does anyone use any travel apps on your travels and if so what do you recommend. I really want a good travel app to document my itinary and keep everyone at home well informed about my trip. Any other relevant apps like currency convertors etc. are very welcome.

PS. I'm really starting to get seriously nervous now!! What do you recommend I do with all this nervous energy???

Can't help with the travel aps, seeing as I want an Iphone but wont be getting one any time soon. But as far as nervous energy goes you might try planning a mini trip sometime before leaving, it could even be somewhere close, as long as it's a mini adventure it will take your mind off things. Also, I expended my nervous energy by fine tuning details about my trip and doing extra research. Good luck with your trip, "around the world" seems like an exciting and ambitious journey! Have Fun!

You could have a look at this app's site to check is out and maybe win something:

It helps you find nearby washrooms when you travel. They have 60,000 in their database so far and so are running contests to add more. Win itunes gc's (no purchase necessary) or airfare/iphones when you download the app (.99 cents).

Hey there,

I am heading for a trip to Europe end of this month.. google maps on iphone wont be much help with no internet access...

therefore i suggest the following..

create a google calendar a/c, sync with your iphone and share with ur travel companions...this is great way to plan ur trip

go to itunes store and search for apps such as:
Languages: French & Italian
Walking tours
transportation such as real time rail service and maps...

always read reviews before buyin the app..

Thanks for all your replys folks.

I head of around the world in 2 weeks. I had already booked a ski holiday before going away. Living it up, me!!! So used the opportunity to practise using my i-phone abroad. And I must say the i-phone is a great travel tool. I was able to use it to keep in touch with my friends with facebook and access my e-mails. I also used the free skpe app to contact home with the free hotel wi-fi. Free phonecalls - happy days!!!! Other apps I have downloaded, all free (cheapskate) include, currency converter, google earth, language translator, my local bank app which gives me access to my account at the touch of a button and the worldheritage app.

I'm gonna blog using my netbook as I feel the keypad on the iphone would be too slow. I also want to use my netbook to download my photos from my dslr camera. There are loads of apps out there and I hope members of the forum continue to post their app suggestions.

PS would like to meet up with some of you guys on my travels!

A mate of mine just got back from a skiing trip and was using runkeeper to keep track of how much they skied, speed etc. Sounded pretty nifty :)
