Hi,

I understand that the monsoon season spreads from south to north from around 1st June each year. Not sure if this means there is not a real build-up to it and so travel before that time and for the first few weeks would be fairly light rain? Can anyone help?

Would it will still be a good time to travel in Kerala/Goa/Mumbai in May......would it still be beach weather?

Rajasthan/Uttah Pradesh (Golden Triangle, Lucknow, Varanasi etc.) in June

.....and the Punjab in July?

I know that it probably varies year on year but a rough idea would be really helpful. Is it likely that train/bus travel will be affected due to flooding during this period? This 'early' in the monsoon season?

Many thanks

Perfectly fine to visit India between May and July. Normally it rains heavily between July and September. Sometimes trains are dalayed in case of heavy rains for 2-3 days in some parts of India. But mostly its OK travelling during monsoon. Just keep a 2-3 days extra in your hand if you are travelling for a months time.

hey steeve,

"Would it will still be a good time to travel in Kerala/Goa/Mumbai in May......would it still be beach weather?"

temperatures hover around 35 deg C during May in the places mentioned above.

"Rajasthan/Uttah Pradesh (Golden Triangle, Lucknow, Varanasi etc.) in June "

I guess June would be fine...not only rain varies year on year but also in regions....Think the golden triange would be ok...as it does not rain too heavy in this area

"july" tends to be heavy with rain

would say just go ahead n njoy
cheers!!!

Be a good time to head north to Kashmir, Ladahk and Himachal Pradesh. Or go over to Darjeeling.
