it depends on what u expect. for parties-krakow is definitely number 1. its also very beautiful city. about 65km away is Oswiecim- polish-must-see. theres infamous museum of holocaust Auschwitz-Birkenau. if u like mountains u should go to zakopane.
wrocław, łódz, poznan, gdansk are also worth seeing. i dont really advice u to go to capital of Poland-warsaw. its typical postindustrial city... complitaly destroyed during WWII so it doesnt look good now. but if u happen to be there u should go to the Warsaw Uprising Museum

In the summer, Gdansk/Sopot is definitely the place to be. Poznań & Wrocław are pretty similar to eachother but both have beautiful old towns and are well worth a visit too. All 3 cities are served by Ryanair and/or Wizzair.

check out Torun. Completly left untouched by allied-axis bombing. incredible old town. its a uni town, so there are tons of young people to show you around the different bars; etc.

I did enjoy Warsaw, 24 hours was enough, but I enjoyed the 5 main museums (all free as it was the 20th Anniversary of independance) I did a lot of walking! I recommend a visit to Warsaw there is a lot to see, but there is a lot of businesses and Krakow has a lot more, mainly the castle, concentration camp and the amazing salt mines (gets more visitors).

Warsaw has a surreal but cool palace though

boulderman do you prefer big cities for their museums architecture? or some small not-very-touristy?

Hi Tjahzi,

I like a bit of both, there are loads of not so touristy places in the world which will be increasingly be added to peoples to do list. A number of people see only capitals e.g. Paris Berlin or go from Riga to Prague entirely skipping Poland and Warsaw and Lithuania. I loved Lithuania, Vilnius, its capital, and many other destinations in Lt as well. I think I have seen "most" of Lt but would like to see more of Poland.

I would be interested in smaller places, mainly if they are close to other places of interest and relatively easy and cheap to get to as time and money will ultimately have a limit and it depends how different the culture is from the more famous spots/cities/museums in the cities compared to spending time and money in another country :)

We are heading to Warsaw in June to see Metallica, since the gig is on a Wednesday we are looking at:
Fly into Krakow - spend a day/night there
train to Warsaw - look around/gig 1 1/2 days
either fly/train to Berlin - 2 days

Any suggestions of must see's in Krakow/Warsaw would be appreciated, I used to spend loads of time in Berlin so no probs there.

Depends what you want, you have Auschwitz, Wavel Castle and the amazing salt mines in Krakow.

The old town in Warsaw is lovely and the palace is nice. You won't need as much time there, Lemon Hostel is awesome to stay at though.

Greg and Tom Hostel is where to stay in Krakow, don't stay at Flamingos.
