For budget hotels in Bangkok, you shoudl look for hotels in Khao San road. There are many such as Viengtai Hotel, D&D Inn. These two hotels are fine.

To go to Koh Pha Ngan, you can buy a package including transportation with Lomphaya travel ( they own catamalan boat, i think ). I saw its office in Khao San road. Sorry, I don't know the telephone number.

I don't have 2005 calendar month with me now so I am not sure when is the full moon day.

Hope this would be any of help.

OK. Based on what I got, the full moon party is supposed to be on 20/8/2005. But check out this website for more info:

I'm also planning a trip to Thailand but not until later in the yeah. I can't give you allot of info on Bangkok but I have done a bit of reasearch on Kophangang.
From my reasearch I have fond that Hat Rin Nok and Hat Rin Nai are the places to be for the full moon party. That is where the party takes place. You should book you accoidations early as they will fill up fast . Hat Khaut is supposed to be agreat place to stay if you want to avoid the crowds and enjoy some scerene waters and such, though it is on the opposite end of the island.
I have been the the website, it's really great you should check it out. Good luck with your travels and enjoy. All the information I provided is from research not expersiece, so take it with a grain of salt.

-Here is the lunar calendar for 2005, full moon on 1/25/05 & 2/24/05
-Also check out the book "A Let's Go Travel Guide to Thailand"

Jules -

I will be in Thailand the same time if you'd like to meet up for full moon or other activities!
