Look Out Vancouver, Here I come! Yep, that's right, somehow the stars have aligned and I'm heading to the Olympics tomorrow. If any fellow travellers are there and want to hang out and explore the city, let me know. I'll be there the next week, and look forward to swapping travel stories over a pint.
Cheers.

Currently here in Vancouver but I head home tomorrow night. The weather is stunning! Although there is lots of Olympic AKA "Touristy" places to visit, try to get over ot Stanley Park, Granville Island, or Sunset Beach where you will witness a whole different side of Vancouver during the Olympics. Local people doing their regular routine but sporting Canada pride. It gives you a whole different respect for the Olympics outside of the Vegas like atmosphere of the Olympic Venues. Enjoy your stay!

Granville Island is action central for the Olympics I don't know how someone could visit the place and not notice that, I mean there are upward of 30,000 people a day there-note that I live a 10 minute walk away.
In any case locals work on Granville Island but few visit with any regularity it's becoming more and more of a garden variety tourist trap as years go by-it's not a place to visit to get a glimpse of how regular Vancouverites live.
As to Vegas-like atmosphere that's something else I take issue with-the temporary structures (read tents) hosting Olympic pavilions have nothing in common with Las Vegas nor does any place in this city-that is nonsense.
Yes the weather has been the best February in living memory-see Kat Kam for details.

I'm having a ball here in Vancouver. Awesome weather. Sunny and 50 degrees everyday. Vancouver is an awesome city, and I've enjoyed talking to a lot of people, and checking out all the neighborhoods and parks. I like the canadian pride folks are showing. Tickets are too expensive for any events, but I did go to a medal ceremony for the women's halfpipe.
Thanks for the advice Jennylyn, always appreciated!
Cheers.

Yeah, this has been the wettest February in northern California in the past 7 years. We are getting all the storms that usually go north and hit Seattle and Vancouver.
