Hi all,
My name is Leroy. I'm intrested in visiting romania perhaps next year may or may 2006 depending on the money and time i have.

I need to know how much would it cost to stay and live in romania for a month to 2 months. I'd be staying with a friend in bucharest and so accomodation is not much of a trouble except when we intend to go to places that are a little out of the way in the black sea, mountain resorts and of course everybody's favourite castle, Brans castle.

I need to know how much it will cost and all such as transport, food, accomodation if we are out of bucharest and shopping for souvieniors and clothes.

I'd really appreciate your kindness if you would help me in this problem. :)

A million thanks in advance,

Romania in details

I have been working with foreigners for over a year now and I had the chance to discuss with more than 450 people. In the first place, Romania will definitely offer to you much more value for the money you have. Read some prices below and you’ll tell me what you think:

Euro 1 is Lei 41.000

Dinner / lunch in a good restaurant / a person = Euro 3-5 (one beer, no wine included, a meal with two courses)
Accommodation in youth hostels = Euro 10 to 13 (Euro 10 does not include breakfast normally)
Beer in a restaurant = Euro 1
Beer in a bar = Euro 1 (I am not mentioning Corona, Hoegaarden, Guiness… which are more expensive because they are not produced in Romania)
Beer in a shop (5-7% alcohol) 12.000 lei to 25.000lei (Euro 0,29 to Euro 0,60)
Train tickets: - for example, Cluj to Suceava – Euro 8 (350km – 7 hours)
Suceava to Brasov – Euro 8,5 (380km – 8 hours)
Suceava to Bucharest – Euro 10.(6 hours)
(The prices are for good trains)
A bottle of good wine in a shop: Euro 2,5 - Euro 5,5
Vegetables – very cheap in the summer time, because they are locally produced, more expensive in the winter, because they bring them from Turkey…
Meat - Euro 4 for a kilo of good beef
Fish – Euro 4 to 7
Taxi – 10.000 lei a km, Euro 0,24 (Euro 1 is Lei 41.000)

Places to see: Suceava, 3 days, for the painted monasteries which are more than 500 years old, with original fresco painting from 1535 to 1590. These monasteries are UNESCO World Heritage from 1993.
Cluj: 1-2 days
Sighisoara: 1 day
Sibiu: 1-2 days
Brasov 1-2 days
Bucharest: 1-2 days
Constanta, for the Black Sea, Danube Delta
Mountains as well…

I would recommend at least 2 weeks to 4 weeks to see everything.
Any other details you might want to find out, please give a shout!

All the best,
Monica, [snip - snip...]
