My buddy is going to visit me in China in August from US. Does he need a visa for a two week stay to wander between Macau, Hong Kong and Guangzhou?

As far as I know, he will need a multiple entry visa for China, but does not need a visa for HK or Macau. You need the mulitple entry visa so that you can re-enter China from HK etc.
