Oh my god, how exciting is this!!!

I am heading to Cairns from Singapore on 14 Sept and I will be staying until mid Feb (moving onto NZ then Fiji), I am sooooo giddy to spend xmas and NY in Sydney!!!!

I will be working my way down the east cost to Sydney where i will hopefully find some work.

If anyone has a similar idea and wants to meet up please get in touch.

Laura x

Hi all I hope you don't mind me joining in, there are so many posts on here to read and it looks as though there are a lot of people from the UK either considering going to Oz by themselves, or have actually booked a trip which reassures me as I am planning on going in September - if I can get my arse in gear! My original plan was to travel/work over 12 months starting in Sydney then to Melbourne, Adelaide, Alice Springs, Perth, Darwin, Cairns then back to the east cost to Sydney to fly back to the UK but now I have bridesmaid duties in June 2011 I think I may only squeeze six months in so I need to plan this out.

I have researched so many things and have a list of hostels across Australia that seem to have fairly good recommendations but my initial concern is I fly to eg Sydney, then I am there in the city on my own and not sure where to take it from here? I just wondered what other people do/are doing as this is the part that worries me slightly! I'm not sure whether to book accommodation, transport etc for my first day or whether to do one of these trips which is almost like a package deal that includes transfers from the airport to accommodation for five nights so you can get your bearings etc. As someone who would be travelling alone for the first time I like the idea but also understand it would probably cost more than if I was to arrange something myself.

Many thanks Zoe

Hey Zoe!

I will be around in Sydney from the 6th of September, don't know if you have a date for going out there?

About your concerns - I'm not really planning much before I go. But I would recommend getting accommodation sorted for the 1st week at least, in a hostel or something.
I haven't been through any companies like STA or Ozintro, but if you're worried about organizing everything it could be a good solution.

Keep in touch ie your plans,

Hi Anna-Lilly

I have no date set yet because I don't have it booked off work yet! We don't have a sabbatical scheme here so I have to put in writing how it would benefit me as a person, my role at work etc so until i've done that I can't plan a date. There is so much to consider i'm wondering whether i'm leaving myself enough time to get organised by September (I thought it would simply be a case of save money then go!). Does anyone know how long it takes to get a WHV approved?

Thanks Zoe
