Hi everyone,

my boyfriend Glen and I are on a limited travel budget this year (500 € per person at the most) :(, however we would love to get away for at least a week. Aside from that it has to be a cheapish destination, Glen wants to go hiking where as I would love to go diving at the same time. Can anyone recommend a nice place where both is possible without spending a fortune to get there?
Thanks a million for any suggestions in advance!

Steff

From Germany, I would say your best bet would be Rovinj Croatia. Cheapish country. Excellent wreck diving, lost of Hostels, and beautiful countryside nearby where you can hike.

Have fun

Rovinj is preaty much lowland. I would recomend you National park "Paklenica " in Croatia if you want spectacular rocks and for diving small place Sv Filip i Jakov. My friend spend last summer there on diving course. They were on other National park "Kornati" on diving. Just go on google and see. All that is 15 - 20 min from low cost airport. He told me he payed apartment 25 euro per night.

Thanks for the suggestions so far! The only thing is, we spent three weeks in Croatia last year and therefore would like to go somewhere else this year. Has anyone dived in Greece before and can recommend it? And how about Corsica, would that be an option on our budget?

Hi Steff! I'm planning to go to the Greek islands in early May and also very interested in diving :) I'm not sure if it would be possible cause it seems that Greece is the windsurfers paradise :) But I will come with more experienced suggestions very soon :) Hope so

Have you considered North Queensland in Australia? There are some amazing hikes through the rainforest regions and if you base yourself near the coast you are right on the Great Barrier Reef to dive...

Thanks guys for your advice, but at the moment it looks like we won't get away this year :(. Saving up for a big trip next year though! Galka_mak, I'm looking forward to hearing about your trip to Greece anyway, and KoalaGirl I'd love to return to Australia straight away, however with our limited budget that's hardly possible at the moment. To be honest I also prefered diving at the West Coast instead of at Great Barrier Reef.

too bad about not traveling this year steff, if ur traveling next year and have the same conditions (hike + dive), you should consider Dahab in Egypt. The Red sea has some of the best places to dive plus u could hike mount Sinai. Accommodation and food is reasonably cheap. Not to sure about the airfares however at a quick glance on google fares return from Berlin to sharm el sheikh are between $500 to $600.
