I'm somewhat new to traveling. What websites are best for researching destinations, flights and other transport, currency conversion, planning a budget and anything else that you have found useful? I'm specifically planning a trip to West Africa, but am interested in websites for all destinations, etc.
Best travel websites
For currency conversion, I use XE.COM
For checking general airfare - which days of the month are cheapest, I like ITA SOFTWARE
For an airfare search engine, I like MOMONDO.COM
seat 61 is great for figuring out your train journeys.
For flights, I look for the carriers that fly to that country then look directly at their sites. I haven't found one flight booking system that can ever match the price of specials offered directly from the carrier.
Yeh, XE.com is a great currency conversion site.
For flight price comparison I often look at Skyscanner.
Best information site for travelers to SE Asia would have to be TRAVELFISH.COM

Well, once you're in the country and want to find a cheap, good hotel, then http://www.trivago.com is pretty cool.
It lets you compare all the hotels in the area, so you can quickly get an idea of what the average prices are. They're reviewed and evaluated by other trivago travellers, so you can tell if the place is as good as it sounds. I've used it several times when I was in Asia and I wasn't disappointed.
