I might be flying to the Philippines (Manila airport) in the first week of May. Any suggestions of where I can go in 9 days? I plan to spend a few days in Manila, of course, but then...? I'd like to visit at least one other island, besides Luzon. But Cebu and Mindanao seem too far away, by ferry.

The first thing to keep in mind with your forecast is the upcoming elections around May 10th.
I would suggest going to Palawan; starting in Puerto Princesa and traveling north or Busuanga and travelling south.
Other destinations within a day's travel are Puerto Galera to the south of Manila and Pangasinan to the north.
While in Manila, start at the SM Mall of Asia and gather your bearings and decide on what spots to visit/tour from there.
cheers!
Eric

Hmm... I didn't know about the elections. Thanks for the heads-up.
Anyways, it looks like I won't be going after all... Not canceled, just postponed until next year (I hope).

Ok!
I am curious on one thing though ...
Did you ever write a poem about 'cows'?
all the best

But Cebu and Mindanao seem too far away, by ferry.
Several domestic airlines cover most of the islands of the archipelago, so if you're rushed, the best choice is to take one of those planes!

Check out Cebu Pacific as they are the local low cost airline and fly to most places in the Philippines. Very cheap and in my experience very good.

Cebu Pacific cuts many deals with travel agencies but if you forecast ahead, you can avail of their online promos.
