Me and my friend Jodie are in Oz this NYE.
We’ve been told Sydney is the town to party it in, and to book far in advance as they get VERY booked up.
Can someone please recommend some good hostels to stay in please?
Not to far from the Harbour please.

The YHA has a new hostel Sydney Harbour Hostel located in The Rocks. Bookings for NYE open 1st May. (That's 1st May AEST). It's in Cumberland Street and the Glenmore Hotel just up the road is a wonderful hotel - great atmosphere and authentic.
Bridgeclimb is not far from there. This is by far the closest hostel - the NYE fireworks are held over the bridge
I stayed at Base which was a good place and it's close to the harbour. I would recommend booking asap as availability in most places is likely to be tight already.
The YHA site is now accepting bookings for Christmas and New Year

I booked Christmas & New Year at 'Maze Backpackers' Glad it's done & dusted. Has anyone stayed there before?

I'm sure it was $33AUD per night, which seems like roughly the going rate! Also you only have to confirm the booking with a credit/debit card and you pay on arrival! Maybe see you there

A four share dorm is $38 per night, a six share is $36 per night over the Christmas period.
Try these guys http://www.yha.com.au/hostels/nsw/sydney-surrounds/sydney-central/ they still have rooms over the christmas/NYE period, and its roughly around $40 per night for 6 female dorm room.
Great facilities and close to major transportation.
