Good morning,

I am just starting research on a summer trip to Israel. Right now, I'm looking for a few good guide books to get me feet wet. Any recommendations? I notice the my favorite Rough Guide doesn't put have one for Israel.

And I know it will be hot but any preferred time to go from June until the end of August??

I would advise staying away from eilat during the summer holiday. It's jammed with israeli's on holiday, and can feel just a bit overcrowded.

You don't need to stay too long in Eilat before catching a bus down to Dahab in The Sinai !!!

Shalom Suzanne and thanks for planning to visit Israel - we love to have people come!

Of course, yes, the summer IS the hottest time over here in Israel, BUT if the past few years are any indication, June will still be a bit cooler, more like late Spring in your part of the States. My favorite time of the year in Israel is late March, just after the winter rains, when everything, even the desert, is green and the fields are covered in kalaniot (anemones) and other native flowers.

AND, after April 1st, all prices (air fares, hotels, etc.) go up as this is high season. So, while you might be able to find a last-minute cheap fare via an internet site or special deal, I recommend you book your flights ASAP and look into Bed&Breakfast or small rental flats (Zimmers) which are abundant here for the best prices. Even so, summer is when everyone comes, so the sooner you make your plans and reservations, the better!

If I can help you in anyway, please write to me at -snip-
