We have booked our 4-month trip to South America and have 2 potential routes to get to Cuzco to do the Inca Trail. The first route (our preffered route) should get us to Cuzco around the 3rd week in January 2011. The second route should allow us to do the Inca Trail at the very end of December.

We appreciate that the trail is closed throughout February and that it is rainy season from December to March. We dont mind a bit of rain (after all we are Scottish!!), however, we are concerned about poor visibility and not being able to getting the most out of the trip due to the weather.

We appreciate that the weather may be unpredictable in either of these months, but we are trying to find out if the chances of poor weather would be reduced greatly if we went in December? We would be grateful if anyone has any comments or advice regarding the weather on these potential dates.

Many thanks
Del & Linda

Hello Del and Linda,
The closer to February the rainiest it gets. For example, this year torrential rains in late january closed the access to Machu Picchu for months. Therefore, I highly recommend to travel in December rather than January.

Have a safe trip,
