You have experience. You should apply for a job in the traffic control department. I bet you'd have that mess cleared in no time!! 
It has become one big asphalt and concrete campground. We get frustrated when it takes three hours to get into Chicago rather than the normal two. 
It's pretty insane, huh!? I'm heading to Beijing later this year; hopefully the traffic jam has lessened by then 
from the looks of it the increase of car sales is to blame.
least the Chinese government have ideas on how to tackle it
Do Chinese cars come with a built-in gas mask for all that smog? no thanks, it was bad enough in Bangkok!

Just 9 days in China? Pah.
I'm assuming you all know that between junctions 5 & 10 on the M6 around Birmingham, more traffic per hour passes by - than on any other stretch of motorway in the world. It may not queue for 9 days, but 'Every' day, including weekends, there's a queue - regularly over 10 miles long with delays of well over 2 hours in each direction.
China's little 9 day hitch once in awhile.... It's just a tiny blip.
