Just wondering about peoples past experience with Backpackers Insurance.

Is there anyone who has been with a certain company who do it for a reasonable rate?

Is there anyone who has had a policy and had an accident or other happen whilst travelling and the company were fine with paying out?

Is there anyone who had a policy and had real problems trying to get their insurer to pay out?

The reason i ask is because i have been told by people on here to go for and also the moderators (i think) advising people to go for Nomads insurance, but i have just had a look on the to see some previous policy holders comments and what i have seen is not very optimistic. had an average rating of 1.4 out of 5 stars, from 219 votes or something like that, which is absolutely awful, and these people were saying, they always have problems with them, they never pay out and to not go with them just because they are cheap. When in actual fact they arent anymore, as their cheapest policy has gone up about £100, from £170 to £270.

Nomads have also got some god awful reviews on there, not as bad as insureandgo but they got a rating of about 1 star out of 5, from about 30 or so votes. The comments were equally as bad, stating that the company doesnt pay out and will try everything they can to not pay anything, also one said that their bag got lost by an airline, but nomads told them that due to the bag being with an airline, it was classed as unattended, so they would not pay out for it. Thats sounds extremely dodgy to me.

So please, any help would be very appreciated!!

I went for Downunder Worldwide Insurance in the end as looking at their policy wording they cover for a lot of activities by standard. I was especially interested in cycle touring. Some of the others didn't cover for cycle touring only 'cycling'.

Not a bad price I thought.

Yet to leave for my trip and I hope I never have to give advice on accidents.

Good luck!

Me and boyfriend leave in Jan for our trip and decided to go with Insure and Go as they cover Epilepsy (which my boyfriend has) we found it quite difficult to find a policy that covers exsisting medical conditions.

Insure & Go charged us £600 for the two of us for 18 months cover.

Have you managed to organise cover yet?x
