We really dont want to be tied down on how long we stay at places and where we go hence why were not really doing much planning. We will stay in hostels and try and do some camping to save some money also making our own meals

Im looking to travel around sometime soon I hope. I want to go everywhere and anywhere but thats not possible because of finances etc.
I have backpacked Belgium, some of France and half of the Nederlands before over a period of eight weeks or so on about £500.

Most of my travel was hitch hiking and some train rides, but hitching I found, was the best form of getting around cheaply since Europe is connected!
I am looking to go maybe January time onwards and travel and work to fund my travel until I get bored and then come home again. I was wondering if anyone is looking for a companion or wants to join me? So far I have £400 SAVED and I reackon this is enough to get me to France etc and then keep me going for a few weeks until I find work to fund my travel. I will hopefully have more saved by January. I wil camp and stay in hostels when needed. I have no real idea of a destination, just wake up and go in any direction really. I have most of the gear I need except food, but get that as I go haha!
Im Rob, 21 male from UK North Wales, unemployed and just finished with the British army.

Looking forward to replies :)

Hey Rob.

My names Dan, Im 20 from south wales. Im looking to travel around europe setting off towards the end of may/ early june this summer.
Me and a few mates drove to sardinia last summer so i have some experience travelling across europe.
Im hoping to have around 1500 saved but im amazed and very impressed that you managed 8 weeks on £500.
This is my first time travelling alone and Im also looking to camp and stay in budget accomodation when needed.
Any information or suggestions would be very helpfull.

Hey Dan,

Well to be honest with you, 1500 is alot to go with but it all depends on where you are wanting to travel and how you go about getting there and where you stay and what you eat etc.
When I went, I camped a hell of alot and I just stayed in cheap hostels when I was in the cities and built up areas.
When it came to travel, I did alot of train hoping but I also hitch hiked most places. I managed to hitch 7 rides in one day from Lille to Eindhoven so I was lucky with stuff like that, but the bigger the group then the less likely you are to get a lift.
I dont eat alot so I am lucky when I travel but I just picked up small snacks and light meals rather than visit restraunts or whatever and I just carried a large water bottle which I fill from taps and rivers in the country but be sure to take serilising tabs ;)
Simple things like that save alot of money but it all depends on what you want out of your trip. If your driving then it will of course be more expensive but if theres a group then save by sharing fuel and food packages and stuff.
I will be in Germany around May time since I am going there to work in January so if your close to Stuttgart, give us a bell and we can travel some.

Any more help just ask.
