Barcelona is a very tourist and beautiful place, you can visit a lot of museums, go to great restaurants, and still have fun during the night.
If you are going, you need to hear some advices:
- Be careful in “Las Ramblas”: a lot of thieves are looking for naive tourists (i.e. steal wallets, play the “find the ball and bet money”, ask you for information and steal your bag, etc... )
- Avoid eating on Las Ramblas, it is very expensive and the food is not great. Go to Paseo de Gracia, Rambla Catalunya, Av. Laietana... all these avenues are near the center.
- To go out in the night, avoid going to Maremagnum.. Ask to a taxi driver to take you to Santaló Street, it is full of bars and near from several discoteques.

I hope this information will be useful for you.

I hate picking out one place and trashing it, but I don't want you to have a bad experience: the Ideal Youth Hostel is less than ideal. It's located right off Las Ramblas, next to the Liceu metro stop. The management are not that nice, they charge (a lot) for sheets, and it's really dirty. We met people in Barcelona that were paying the same amount as us and staying in a clean, cheap hotel.

I echo Moloko's thoughts about being weary of street performers - and there are a bunch in the Las Ramblas area. Plus there's an open-air flea market type thing close to the Christpoher Columbus monument, which can be a good place to get pick-pocketed, so be careful.

Also, something to check out would be this water fountain show by the Placa d'Espanya (Espanya metro stop). The show is set to music and there are's really beautiful. The fountain is right in front of the National Art Museum. It runs every night in the summer...I believe starting from 9 or 9:30. They also have music and an outdoor party. It's great!

Katie ;)

Hi there!!
I haven't stayed in Sea Point yet but I will be when i'm in Barcelona next month. One of my friends stayed there last summer and highly recommended it to me, mostly for its unbeatable location right in the beach of Barcelona.
