I was just wondering how a flight from London to Mexico City can be as cheap as 300 pounds, but a flight from Cancun to London is 600+

Seems outrageous!

I'm hoping I don't have to change my route through Mexico. I was planning on travelling from Mexico City to Cancun and then coming home.

Would you advice I try getting a flight from Cancun back to Mexico City or the states before I fly back to London?

Costs from London to Cancun are cheap. Very strange.

My guess is that flights out of Europe are just plain cheap. My b-friend flew Dublin/London/Amsterdam/Montreal for about 350 pounds last April, while prices for me to visit him were upwards of $1,500CAN. Come to think of it, I went to see my sister in NZ one Christmas, and my flight cost me double what hers would have been to visit me.

Craziness! I think we're behind over here when it comes to affordable airfare.

That we most definitely are, but also that Mexico City isn't as popular a destination as Cancun is. Actually, among the more affordable all-inclusive vacation destinations such as Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and Mexico (the Caribbean islands like the Caymans, Jamaica, Turks & Caicos, Aruba, Barbados, the Bahamas, are ridiculously expensive), Cancun is the most expensive. What I would do is check up on domestic flights in Mexico. If a flight from Cancun to Mexico City (and then on to London) is cheaper than a direct flight from Cancun to London, go for it. It won't delay you by too much to do that.

I searched for a Cancun-Mexico City flight on www.travelocity.co.uk, and got 55 GBP for a one way (travel dates between Jan 24, and March 10), so it might just be a good idea. Check out http://www.aviacsa.com/WEB/index.cfm (Aviacsa), and http://www.mexicana.com/main/ (Mexicana de Aviacion) for domestic flights.
