Hi all,

This will be my third trip to Australia, but my first to Melbourne and Victoria (I have been to most places on the East coast including Sydney and Brisbane) so I'm not bothered about sightseeing there. I'll be travelling with my girlfriend and flying into Sydney.

We are picking up a rental car and will have it for the duration of our stay in Victoria. We will be staying approximately 75km from Melbourne in a sleepy place called Rosebud for six nights. During this time we hope to travel to Wilson's Promontary, Phillip Island and several other places along the Great Ocean Road.

We then have a night in Melbourne before travelling to the Grampians National Park then back along the Great Ocean Road back to Melbourne.

From there we fly to the Sunshine Coast for five nights before travelling back to Sydney and then home.

Any thoughts please let me know.

April 20 – London to Sydney (flight)
April 22 – Sydney to Melbourne (flight) – Melbourne to Rosebud (car)
April 28 – Rosebud to Melbourne (car)
April 29 – Melbourne to Halls Gap (via Ballaratt) (car)
April 30 – Halls Gap to Port Campbell (via Port Fairy and Warrnambool) (car)
May 1 – Port Campbell to Torquay (via Apollo Bay and Lorne) (car)
May 2 – Lorne to Melbourne (car) – Melbourne to Brisbane (flight) – Brisbane to Noosa (bus)
May 7 – Noosa to Maroochydore (bus) Maroochydore to Sydney (flight)
May 11 – Sydney – London (flight)

Sounds like a good trip, if you get time there's some interesting waterfalls around Hamilton you could visit. It will probably be getting cooler down that way in April so the Great Ocean Rd won't be as crowded as in summer.

Thanks for the tip tim, I am hoping to go and watch an AFL match at the MCG but has anyone got any other 'must do' excursions for Melbourne or Victoria?
