Hi all,

I am travelling down to Aus in August for year and I am just beginning to apply for my visa etc. I am however a little confused?!?!?

I have seen the whv on the website for £155, this includes just the visa. I have also seen the whv starter package on the visafirst website for £229, this includes 12 month whv, australian sim card, bank account and tax file number. I am a little confused, what would be best for me to do? Or do you know of any other packages I could take out that might be useful??

I was also wondering if you have any companies to use for an open return flight ticket? Also any insurance companies? Any help and advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks :)

Opening a bank account and getting a tax file number are both free and supremely easy to do for yourself once you're there. I don't know what's the cheapest you could get a prepaid sim card in Australia is at the moment, but it'll certainly be less than £74.

I can highly recommend just doing everything yourself; absolutely no need to shell out big bucks to a third party trying to benefit from first-time travellers feeling insecure; tens of thousands of others do the same thing every year, and discover just how easy it all is.

Hi Robin - applying for a visa is only $235 direct with the Australian Dept of Immigration

Bank accounts can also be organised online for free - we suggest the CBA, but others include the NAB, ANZ and St George.

Taxfile numbers can be obtained once you arrive in Oz, and you'll need to supply an Aussie address for this as it will be posted to you.

Sanders's right about the mobile SIMs, it seems there's a new, bigger, better, cheaper option on offer every week, but calls within Oz and internationally are still very cheap, i.e 15c international SMS.

The better Arrival Packages generally don't charge for these items, they're organised on your behalf for free when bundled with other items in the pack. When choosing a package be sure to check for positive reviews - facebook is a good resource, find out what hostel you're staying at, what fun stuff is included and what job service is included.

Have an awesome trip!
