Hi Dave,

Light trekking shoes or even sneakers will do the job. I would wear some very light long pants to protect your legs against spokes or ants.
In case there is big mud you can consider wearing rubber boots - something you can find locally too for a cheap price.

The floors in the forests in thailand are not particularly dense but sometimes you can find some plants that are full of small spokes.

I did trekking in rain forests in a number of countries in tropical areas but south east asian forests are not that challenging in general. So, even if you have just bermudas or sneakers, you can still go ahead.

Just spray yourself thoroughly with citronella or some mosquito repellent spray that contains deet and take a lot of drinking water with you.

I did a day trek from Pai, and just wore cheap trainers. I'm not sure how the rainy season would affect the trekking up there though; you might need to wear shoes with reasonable grip. For clothing, just wear something cool.
