Hello buddies,

So, I am planning to stay 12 days in Greece in June, starting in Crete and flying back from Athens (looking for a mix of history, beaches and nightlife), is it too much to ask?
So, first of all, please which islands would you recommend? Famous 'Santorini' looks like mandatory option, but actually I'd be glad to avoid too crowded and expensive spots....
Mikonos?

In Crete, say, for 4 days, where would you be based to better profit? Can we count on public transportation to get to the beaches/historical sites?

Cheers everybody,
Cassianus

The three I'd recommend:

Santorini: Gorgeous
Ios: Biggest Party Island
Mykonos: A blend between the two

Kefalonia:

Stunning, friendly, rich in culture and history, great food and wine, turquoise water etc etc! Myrtos beach a must see, one of the most photographed beaches in Greece. Assos, a sleepy little town at the bottom of a tight windy mountain road, gets cut off for months during the winter and is ever so charming. Melissani Lakes and Drogarati Caves full of millions years old stalagmites are beautiful. The capital Argostoli destroyed by an earthquake in the 50s and completely rebuilt from scratch.

I loved it! :)

I read Captain Corelli's Mandolin whilst I was there and it only added to my appreciation, wonder and interest of the island.

:)
