Hey all.

First time on here so I thought I'd introduce myself. Ok, a tad early one might say but basically I'm planning a trip for next year to Thailand. It would be my first time so I wouldn't have a clue where to start.

Would be nice if anybody on here has the same sort of plans or is in a similar situation. I was planning to go it alone until I came across these travel forums after doing a Google search. Unfortunately I have posted on a few and have had no replies :(

I wouldn't even mind if it was travelling with someone who has been beefore or considering a return trip. I would love to travel as part of a group rather than alone as I imagine it would be a lot more fun.

So, get in touch if you are planning a trip around the same time or similar. The more the merrier as they say.

Thanks

Many tourists prefer to travel alone to Thailand so they can do their own thing at their own pace! So, if you can't come up with a travel partner you will still have a good time!

Read up on Thailand and see what interests you. You can get travel guides from your local library or purchase one. A Lonely Planet travel guide is popular with travelers on a tight budget. In this LP TG you will read about places to visit, currency, customs, scams, etc. Plan for at least 14 days to get your money's worth on the plane ticket. A few more days in Thailand would not cost that much more per day anyway. Food and many hotels can be found cheap.

You must plan a budget out first and see how much you can spend on your hotel or guesthouse. Then you can ask for hotel suggestions in your price range. For Thailand there is no big difference in price between hostels and small private hotels. Hostels attract more teenage boys than adults your age so unless you have a thing for sharing showers and urinals with young boys stick to a hotel or guesthouse! Besides who in their right mind brings a girlfriend back to a hostel?

Plan on a few days in Bangkok right at the beginning of your holiday. My suggestion for normal guy traveling alone is to choose a hotel in the Sukhumvit Road area (low number end) where you will find hotels in all price ranges plus restaurants, malls, street vendors, nightlife and Skytrain. The Skytrain can take you to many places in the city and connect with the subway for a ride to the Hualamphong Train Station. The Skytrain also connects with the new Airport Rail Link at Phaya Thai. Right now you can take a cheap train to Pratunam and switch to the Skytrain for a ride to the hotel in the Sukhumvit Nana area. (No Skytrain in thr Khao San Road area where the kids often choose their hostels and hotels.)

While you are in Bangkok for a few days you can purchase transportation to other cities in Thailand. Spend the last night or two back in Bangkok to wrap things up and make last minute purchases before flying home. In Thailand you can obtain tours through local travel agencies. Stop in and check out their list of available tours. You will meet other tourists on tours. You will meet other tourists when barhopping in Bangkok and Pattaya too!

For the May - June time frame you will have a little more heat and a little more rain. But you will usually have suffucient sunshine most days. Often the rain only falls an hour or two anyway but can vary from area to area. One advantage of this time frame is that hotels are cheaper. Some tourists only prefer to visit during this "low season."

Good luck.

Hey, I'm thinking of doing a big trip next year starting in Thailand. I backpacked Thailand last year so will only be staying for a few weeks, but i'd be happy to meet up if you like? Though, u'll probably find it really easily meeting people when you get there!

Don't leave out Chiang Mai as it is the cultural heart of Thailand. Read my blog and see the videos and photos. I will be adding more so keep coming back. Next entry tomorrow is how to find a real eco-culture friendly trekking company. See -snip-

if you have any questions please let me know.

Enjoy,
Randy

[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please. ]

Hi,

You can travel alone in Thailand and probably you will get to know new friends when you're here .. It's not dangerous if you know how to deal with people. Don't trust some guy or girl so easily if you go some place like night time .. and if you go to Khaosarn Road be careful of some Indian guy that try to get you to buy their clothes ..

have a great trip and safe journey :)

Hi all,

I am planning to fly out to Bangkok in the last week of May or 1st week of June. I want to travel around Thailand then move onto Indonesia and end up in Australia. Nothing set in stone yet...debating if I have the courage to go it alone :s

Anyone else going to be out there about the same time? I am 25 from UK.

hi Sparky05084,

Don't go to Phuket. It's too commercialized and "dark"~
I suggest you can fly to Bangkok first.
day 1: Bangkok tourism: Grand Palace, jade Buddhist temples, such as shopping, worship the Buddha-worshipped four face Buddha etc
day 2: Nakhon Ayuthaya many temples
day 3:PATTAYA :take a look of freak show
Left: If you have the time, 2 days to Koh Samet (Samui), not far from Bangkok Rayong on board, a very small but very fun island.
Diving and other water sports can play.
Finally returned from Bangkok by air ~ ~

hope it helps :) have a nice trip
