Hey people, currently in the early stages of planning a trip which is likely to be late 2012 early 2013, due to trips all ready planned for this year and next.

Here is a rough route plan of what we have in mind, the trip will be for 4-8 weeks.

Leaving from the UK >

Brugge
Amsterdam
Hamburg
Berlin
Prague
Vienna
Rome
Nice
Barcelona
Madrid
Nantes
Paris

>Arrive UK

Map of Route

This route is very basic and will no doubt be added to.

We will be taking our own car and looking for cheap hotels (not hostels) and will be taking a tent as well to camp out when possible (we are thinking mainly when in france).

Any general help and or advice would be great :), especially on places we should add to the list, places to stay (where would be safe to camp) ad any budget advice you may have.

Thanks alot people

:D

Hi,

Michelin website is a useful point to look around for budget accomodation (including camp sites): http://www.viamichelin.co.uk/web/Hotels

If you have a gps with Europe map, that should also help you a lot to locate hotels, guesthouses, b&b places.

Are you planning to do the trip in the winter? I guess it will be cold for camping...
As long as you're not planning to take small roads in the Alpes in the winter, you won't need snowchains.

The most challenging thing will always be to find parking area, especially free ones in any sizeable city.

Fuel prices / calculator / highway tolls:
Google maps now has a feature that will calculate the estimate cost of fuel when you enter your destination in the route planner, also you can plan select option to avoid highway tolls (michelin route planner can also do it).
Fuel cost can vary from country to country: you can always download the latest comparison report on http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/fuel/
Same for toll roads: http://www.theaa.com/allaboutcars/overseas/european_tolls_select.jsp

Have a nice journey!
