Ideally I wanted to work in a mine or something, jobs that arent so common in UK but I think thats hard to break into, so Id take like a bar job or anything just to help me find my feet, but I would love to get a second year visa, then maybe travel around Oz, or just try save some money up and go travelling other places. will you try focus on the horse thing or just get the first thing you can get to help you whilst you find the job you want? I'm kinda just taking it as it comes but with just over 2 weeks away its really getting nerve racking, but i'm a sociable guy and never found it hard to make friends and chat to people, any one on here if you have facebook add me full name is terry devaney, profile picture is me at a festival with a drinking horn in my hand

Hey Kaz,

Don't stress it, you will have a great time here in Oz and in Melbourne! I just left Melb a few days ago and made my way up Great Ocean road and currently in Adelaide. I didn't get to see or do much in Melbourne as I was passing through but DEFINITELY book yourself into a hostel for a week or so, most hostels will discount you too if you stay for a week.

You will meets tons of people from all over and you will feel right at home. Try not to be too shy, a Hostel is kind of like a community if you will. Be friendly and talk to everyone and soon you'll be accepted by everyone and have nothing but good times.

When you get closer to going feel free to give me a heads up, I may be around there again as I have some good friends there.

I strongly recommend you don't back out and go, it may seem scary and nerve racking but it's definitely worth it. I've been in Oz for a month now traveling alone and it's nothing but good times.

Hey Cameron,
Thanks so much for the advice. Everybody has good things to say about travelling solo,so im feeling more at ease now. I'm sure once I get over those first couple of weeks i'l relax a bit more. Really looking forward to meeting lots of new and interesting people. Will definitely let you now when i'm coming over and we could meet up. Talk soon-Karen:)

Hi Karen

I'm in exactly the same boat as you. I fly out from london on 9th August to Melbourne ALONE and I'm soooo sooo scared but at the same time really excited. I haven't planned much but I am hoping to get a job with horses as soon as I can to save money then travel after that. I'm sure there will be plenty of other people travelling alone too, so I just keep telling myself that I won't be alone for too long hopefully.

Lizzy xx

Kaz, I think being scared is a good thing, the scariest things in life are the most rewarding and enjoyable. I know I was very nervous when I went travelling, it is natural, but once you've been out there a week you will honestly what all the fuss was, and I have no doubt it will be the best time of your life :) Just get out there and enjoy it!

Dom - you live literally just around the corner from me in England - small world!
