With your lack of time I would have done Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and Bombay.
If you have the time you can always take a train south from Bombay.

A couple of places to visit in the North Varanasi ( this is an absolute must! )
Personaly, I wouldn't go to Agra its too comercialised and you'll get A LOT of hastle.
In the South visit Tamil Nadu. You can do a Temple Tour taking in Tiruvanammalai, Chidambaram.
If you google Nadi Leaves or Nadi Readings, you may find those VERY interesting. The area around Chdambaram is full of these readers. They're are VERY reasonable and amazingly acurate.
You could also take time out near the sea and visit Pondicherry and Mamalapuram.
Try to stay clear of the Tourist hot spots and be open to whatever India brings.
It's a magical place.Have fun and happy travelling :>

One week with Delhi as base you can make tour of Rajasthan . Or the hill stations .
Then fly to Cochin. Kerala for one week will be great . Cochin , Aleppey , Trivandrum , the lands end. You will see a lot of everything.

I am currently in India at the moment (Cochin) and can give you a brief idea of what I would be doing if I only had 2 weeks.
Day 1 : Delhi
Day 2 : Delhi - no need to stay in Delhi for too long, just long enough to see the main attractions - you can do all of them in a day and a half
Day 3 : Head to Jaipur
Day 4 : Jaipur - take a look around the pink city and see the awesome amber fort.
Day 5 : Agra - Check out the Taj Mahal - pretty much the only thing to see, the mini taj mahal is also nice but otherwise Agra is pretty filthy and stinky
Day 6 : Khajuraho - Check out the erotic temples - plenty of karma sutra poses carved into the temple walls
Day 6 : Take a bus to Jhansi railway station and catch a train to Cochin (2 nights on the train)
Day 7 : On the train - beautiful scenery along the way - make sure you get an aircon carriage though
Day 8 : Arrive Cochin - chose an island and enjoy
Day 9 : Chilling in Kerala state
Day 10: Train to Goa
Day 11: Enjoy goa nightlife
Day 12: Train to Mumbai
Day 13: Enjoy Mumbai and catch train back to delhi
Day 14: Take a breath and reflect on 2 weeks of chaos
Cheers, Kyle
