Hi,

We are leaving on Sunday for a week in Scotland. We are driving and have to be in Inverness by Tuesday 11am. I think it takes around 9 hours in total to get from Surrey to Inverness and ofcourse we want to do this over 2 days as we have two small children, so we do need to make a few stops.

What I really need help with or advice on is where we can stay? We want our first night stop to be around Carlisle or thereabouts (we want to cover more tha half way onthe first day of travelling...) Does anyone have any recommendations on 4/5 star child friendly hotels/B&B's in Carlisle or thereabouts?

I would really like to book asap today as time is now running out (the holiday sprang up on us way to quickly) :-)

Many thanks for any help given.

x

Try Westmorland in Cumbria. Not sure if that's not as North as you wanted but we do the drive from Hampshire to Edinburgh/Fife a few times a year and that's where we always choose to stop. It's actually a service station so you won't have to go far off track either which is always a plus. In a good location and wonderful surroundings. If you have two small children they would love looking out to the pond and ducks etc in the morning.

Thank you both for your replies.

jen.clarck - we want to stop for the night, a little before Glasgow - around Carlisle area or surrounding areas - any ideas of hotels in those parts?

lauren16 - thanks for your help. I looked at the HOtel and it looks fab, but they don't have availability for 27-29 Aug :-(

Back to the google search....

Any other ideas, please let me know. TIA.

Are you driving up the M6? How about staying at Glenridding near Penrith. Very nice, on Ullswater, only a 15 minute diversion from the M6. Not sure about good B&Bs for families but there are quite a few of them.
