A hotel near the airport is usually a hotel in the middle of nowhere!

Will you be visiting Bangkok at all of just blowing off that city and flying immediately out? If flying out and you have a choice of flights don't pick the one where you lose sleep! Often if only visiting other cities in Thailand it is better to just stay in Bangkok for a few days before leaving for other cities. Even Bangkok has summer type weather. In September many hotels will be at low season pricing.

How much per night do you want to spend on a hotel? What time do you arrive? How long will you be in Bangkok?

Most travelers arrive at Suvarnabhumi and just head into the city. There are taxis available 24 hours a day from the airport. If you arrive during day hours before midnight you can even take a cheaper train into the Pratunam area of Bangkok. (Price for the City Line to Pratunam is 45 baht or less.) Likewise, there are meter taxis available all night long to return tourists to the airport too!

For hotel recommendations also mention how much per night you want to pay for a room. Use a dollar, pound or baht figure - don't say cheap or middle priced, etc. Knowing what you want to spend per night will make it easier to suggest a hotel. But if you are visiting Bangkok at all get the hotel in the city and be done with it!
