im hoping to get an employment break from my job to go travelling round the world. i also want to work maily in australia but im worried that any job i get whilst traveling will be classed as a second job, and i will be entitled to pay a higher rate of tax(around 40% i hear).
anybody know anything about this
any advice?

work on the black market - poor pay but no taxes.

Or just save enough money for your travelling and don't bother with trying to find work there.

Hi Amanda,

Hmm, that would have to be a UK legislation then which classifies it as that. In all fairness, I don't think this is really something to worry about as I have never heard of it, but it depends whether you are still going to be making money at home while you are travelling? Will you be being paid while you are travelling in which case I could see it maybe being an issue if you claim your overseas income (if you don't, I doubt anyone will ever know about it but that's a different topic).

What happens mostly is that while travelling you pay the local taxes where you are travelling (say Australia). You are therefore still paying taxes but at their local rates. There is no need to pay even more tax on this money unless you put it down as income back in the UK...
