Hi there. I'm from singapore.
I'm going to graduate from college in march 2012. As part of tradition to travel after graduation, me and my friends had an idea to travel to australia.
However, the thing is they have yet to start saving! I'm currently working part time so i should be able to save have some cash to travel.
Now the point is, my friends brought up the idea of travelling to australia for 3 weeks somewhere between April to May.
However, i've been having this feeling that since everyone of us are tight in our budget. 3 weeks in australia will be very demanding on our budget SGD1.5k (accomodation, transportation, food and entertainment).
Therefore i initiate the idea to travel to thailand instead. with the same amount of money, we will be on the safe budget and can even include our flight ticket in the SGD1.5k budget. But i got the feeling that they don't want to go thailand as to them it is "near".
So now i need your help. Should i follow them to australia with a tight budget or should i just go thailand alone if they insist on australia?
My idea is to enter thailand from krabi and make my way up to bangkok and venture around the north thailand.
What do you think, australia with very tight budget and friends or thailand with safe amount of money but alone?
Will it be safe for me to travel alone in thailand?

Hi!
For my idea... I probably cheer up for Thailand. Not because I live here but I think to go to Australia with tight budget somehow you may not that enjoy. So, why you don't try to go to the place that the budget is more flexible?
I used to go to Australia for about 3 times in my life and I think that there isn't the same as USA or somewhere else that you will enjoy with small budget in 3 weeks. For example transportations fees, meals, or even ticket fees to ZOO [where I think you shouldn't miss zoo visiting if you go to Australia] aren't cheap so with the same budget you probably can travel in Thailand from north to south. And don't worry about travelling alone I think you can have friend who travel alone in Thailand from this board or any other places. So many solo tourist travel in Thailand.

Agree! tight budget for enjoy Thailand perfectly instead of "pass" the Australia. after all enjoy the travel and scenery is the really purpose for our trip.On the other hand, travel alone like something DIY project which can exercise your capabilities.Happy holiday~
