I am likewise hoping to escape (through from the US) to OZ and planning to work in Sydney for awhile. While it's easy to put up a brave front for the family and friends, it's still a crazy thought to be on my own so far from home and know practically no one. Friends are also tied down by marriage and jobs.

I'm planning to get a part time job so I can still travel around Sydney the rest of the time. Then head up the coast later on. Perhaps we'll cross paths.

Let me know if you care to snail mail or email

Hi Michelle,

I travelled to Oz with a friend and i am currently travelling on my own (in canada). Although its a scary prospect to go on your own, you will have a better experience! you dont have to consider the other person and so long as you stay in hostels you will make friends immediately. You must visit the whitsunday islands! Do it!

Hey Brittany

Yeah would be good to speak to someone who is planning the same.

Where are you from in USA?

My facebook is Harriet Bartelli, they dont let us post email addresses on here so message me on here or facebook.

Hey :)

I have also decided recently that i want to go travelling in Australia in the next 12 months. I am the same as you, planning to travel alone as my friends are all tied down with relationships or university.

I am very scared about how to go about it though haha.

I want to be able to do it so much though! As i really dislike the place I live and need to get away for a long time! :)

Quoting Haayley

Hi I am also planning a working holiday to Oz in November and am going alone as my friends cant join me. I would love to meet some like minded people when I'm there. I just want to work, surf and generally jst have a good time!! I'm thinking about cronulla as its near a beach so can surf and also thinking about staying at the hostel there. Anyone who's like minded feel free to reply! :-)

Hi hayley I'm ricardo I'm also looking into going to oz on a working visa in november I've been on its a website where they sort out your visa and flights for you and it seemed pretty cool they sort you out with a bank account and a sim card and find you work pretty much soon as you even stay with them free of charge for a week they take you out to beach partys and to local bars then they find you a flat.. Check it out if you want and let me know I'm going solo but would prefer a traverling buddy :).. £2250 would cover your visa flights and you would have £1000 saving out of that to which you wouldn't touch because they find you work straight away :) facebook if you like.

Ricardo: See my comment on your thread as to how bad of a deal that outfit is. As for the money: As per the eligibility requirements of the WHV, you need AUD $5000 to support yourself, which is about £3300. And make no mistake, general experience teaches that you'll really need at least that much. This company recommending you to go there with only £1000 in the bank is just plain irresponsible. You'll more likely than not have blown through that money before you've even gotten your first paycheck.
