We are looking to do a trip and enjoy going to casinos, playing BlackJack & Roulette, but can only afford the lower end ones, where are they?

I have looked up casinos in general but there are hundreds listed, some in big flashy hotels. We would like not to spend more than $1 - $2 Australian per hand of BlackJack for example, cheaper the better. Or are we dreaming.

We have been to Vegas and found that generally that was way too expensive for us.

Macau is the big gambling mecca in China. Not sure about how much it costs though.

Yeah Macau is the place, you can play any scale you like there, just be sure to dress appropriately or they won't let you in.

Bear in mind that the atmosphere in the casinos in Macau is quite different to the atmosphere in Vegas - or at least it was when I visited in 2007. Most people seemed to be taking their gambling seriously, whereas in Vegas you get the impression that the majority are there for a good time of which gambling is just one aspect. Vegas feels like a big party - Macau, not so much.

There are casinos all over Cambodia. Many are on the Thailand/Cambodia border. Gaming is legal in Cambodia, not in TL. Poipet & Koh Kong have casinos catering to Thai day trippers. Phnom Penh, Sihanoukville as well as the Bavet border with VN also have casinos. Never been in them, but you might give them a try if you are in Cambodia. Singapore has several very upscale casinos, won't qualify if you are looking for cheap however.

vegasmike6, thanks for your post. Have you any idea what the minimum bets are for blackjack tables in Cambodia? Do you know if they offer complimentary alcoholic drinks like in vegas?

We are beach bums, can you recommend any cheap places to stay near to a beach??? Thankyou

Also, when gambling is not lega in Thailand, can you still play, or do you get in trouble?

Jackie,
I think your best bet will be to visit Sihanoukville. Great beaches, water for swimming and cheap! Hard to beat that combo. I have plenty of S'ville photos in my gallery. My blog also shows a casino and the beaches of S'ville. I never went into the casinos, so not sure what is the minimum bet or if they provide free drinks to those that gamble. However, even if it all goes to s**t casino-wise , you are in a great spot. There are still $3-4/nite rooms in S'ville. Hard to beat that. Walk down to the beach, swim, snack from the vendors, home shower, eat at Mealy Chenda (MC) and have an ocean view while you dine. Many would light up, S'ville was very '420' friendly then, not sure now. One stop at MC and you will know.

All in all, S'ville is a great place to relax and unwind from traveling for a few days/weeks. Good luck with your planning.
