travel to me is a "life charger"the more i travel and experience new things the more my life battery is charged so when i am old and physically not able to go,the memories will be my current to keep me happy and smiling....:)

I realise this is very late in the thread but I just found this website and this thread holds a lot of weight with me.

I'm 23, no formal education, a job in retail, and I'm virtually alone. My life is very small here and I will probably never have a well paying job. I'm currently attempting to divest myself of my first investment. With the money from this investment I will have enough to buy a house and continue to build my investments and have a very decent life.

Instead of the job, and "building" a life I am starting to plan a trip to OZ/NZ for 6 months. I'm constantly second guessing myself about this choice. It will set me back years financially and will probably be very hard to restart when I get back.

You could look at this as running away from the problems in life and I suppose I am in a way, as well, in running away from them I'm creating more later on. However, I sit here looking at what I could do around here in terms of activities and meeting people, and I ask my self why? Why should I do these things? Why should I push out of my comfort zone? I can never think of a compelling reason. When travelling that choice is not available to you. There is no comfort zone, the question changes to "Why shouldn't I do these things?" and there is never a compelling reason, you have nothing to hold you back.

No one to impress.

No one to tell you you can't.

Nothing to stop you from challenging yourself.

Nothing to stop growth.

Life becomes about living, experiencing, and expanding.

As my favourite saying goes, "Always grow. Grow all ways". Its from a milk commercial but when you get it right you get it right.

Anyway, that's what travel is to me, and why I'm leaving a potentially decent, pre-planned life for travel and the unknown.

PS The destination/objective is the journey. The stops in between are only a direction to head in.

JMJimmy-yeh i know how you feel-job in retail, same boring place, same people-blah, blah, blah...and the rest that goes with it!

Same group of mates-day in day out-oh that sounds bad-but i have one real good close mate-wouldn't change them for the world!!

Now. now JMJimmy-your picking fault with yourself in everyway poss-look at the good things-

(A) at least you have a job and are earning money-your not on the dole!!??

(B) you have no-one to impress-that's great-only yourself to please-you can be as selfish as you want while you can, eh!

The list goes on!

Life is what YOU make it!

You too eh? I just started researching/planning I'm thinking Oz/NZ for six months (or more if I like it/can afford it). Right now I'm just trying to decide if I want to go solo or try and find some travelling companions.

How about you? where are you off to?

I've been travelling extensively since I was a kid. I've been all over Canada with the exception of BC, Yukon, and Nunavut, Eastern US, though mostly drive throughs, and the Bahamas. Only difference this time is I'm planning it - prior to this I just tagged along with the parents. Somehow it's a lot scarier this way :)

I'll be heading over in August hopefully however it all hangs on the sale of my building. If it's not sold by then I may have to delay.

That's going to be so exciting for you though! Starting the whole thing off with a new experience! Are you going to be hosteling?

i am getting so excitied though-i have written my letter for my area manager to approve my extended holiday-just got to get my manger to sign it and wehey-off to head office it goes and i'm going!

i'm just really nervous-you know as it's all new and al that! the airport thing is going to be really daunting tho!-hopefully i'll arive in one!

i'm just bored and fed up here! as i'm sure you will agree-you seemed to be bored where you are!
