Joel,
It is cheaper and easier to get it online as 'Cyberia' suggested. My blog covers my experience using the 'visa on arrival' system VN now usues. Or buy your VN visa in phnom Penh or Vientiane if you are going overland into VN. Easier, cheaper and faster than buying it in BKK. Good luck.

Thailand is one of the countries that has Vietnam visa exemption, thus, if its citizens would like to reside in Vietnam for a month (or 30 days), they do not need visa to Vietnam. But for those who are not citizens of this country, or for Thailand citizens who need to stay more than 30 days, a Vietnamese valid visa is required.

Normally, one could apply for Vietnam visa directly at Vietnam embassy by visiting:

Embassy of Vietnam in Bangkok, Thailand

Address: 83/1 Wireless Road, Lumpini, Pathumwan, Bangkok 10330, THAILAND
Note:
Office Hours: Mon - Fri 8.30am - 12.00pm 2.30pm - 5.30pm
Visa Hours: Mon-Fri 9.00am - 12.00 noon
However, the easiest and simplest way to get a visa to Vietnam is to apply online for visa on arrival. This way is reliable and cheaper.
